Navarino Food Culture by TRICHORDO

The story begins in 2007.

Panagiotis Kanellopoulos took the decision to showcase his family’s traditional house and the rich gastronomic tradition of the area through the creation of an innovative new business. Thus, TRICHORDO was born, a picturesque tavern with traditional flavours based on local recipes, honouring the traditions and the customs of the place.

Over the next 10 years, many people joined us and savoured the unique flavours of Trichordo trusting us to entertain more than just their taste buds as they listened to traditional music and enjoyed the stunning view of the Oinousses islands and the castle of Methoni in the distance.

The love of our guests and our local fame brought to our door the renowned British chef, Rick Stein. When Rick was looking for locations to film his BBC series

“Rick Stein’s Long Weekends from Venice to Istanbul” we were an obvious choice! The collaboration with this prestigious presenter gave us the impetus for the evolution of TRICHORDO from a traditional tavern into a complete gastronomic experience.

    OUR PHILOSOPHY

Our love for local folk traditions and gastronomic culture has prompted us to create a comprehensive experience for those who want to get in touch with our Messinian cultural heritage. For us, food is more than just a biological need; it is a unique ritual and our vision is to share this experience with our guests.

As you enter the paved courtyard you will have the pleasure of tasting dried figs, pasteli and loukoumi with a mastic liqueur shot that will activate your taste buds. We then offer you a variety of local dishes to enjoy as you watch Panagiotis, our talented chef, prepare your meal in our specially designed open kitchen. Follow the path through our vegetable garden where you will find some of our raw ingredients and then enjoy a guided tour of our village’s famous Byzantine chapel from the 16th century.  The Transfiguration of Our Saviour church is renowned in the area due to its age and connection to the Greek War of Independence. The weapons used in the initial days of the conflict with the Turks were blessed here by a priest before being used in the fight for independence.

Continuing you will explore our traditional Messinian mansion decorated with works of folk art. At this point you will have the time to browse through the specially designed areas of our folklore museum that aim to take you back in time. Our tour continues on the top floor of the mansion where you will be able to buy traditional products from local producers and taste some of the wines that compliment the dishes on the menu of the day.

All this audiovisual and taste experience is the preamble of your culinary journey that ends with the dinner of 7 separate Messinian flavors. We guarantee that this trip will activate all your senses, will initiate you in the secrets of folk wisdom with unique tastes and images that will remain unforgettable!
